Cancellation insurance is taken out to cover the cancellation of a trip before its commencement, or to cover the interruption of a trip already started, for reasons beyond your control as specified below. The insurance is indemnity-based. Cancellation fees are costs incurred by you when cancelling a trip (pre-paid deposit or full trip cost) that the provider has not refunded – transport, accommodation, unused tickets and other related non-realised and non-refundable travel services, excluding the premium itself, airport taxes and other recoverable charges. In the event of an interrupted trip, this applies to a proportional part of these costs. The insurance can be taken out for private or business trips, organised tours or individual travel, a single flight ticket, or accommodation in a hotel, campsite, guesthouse or private accommodation, a spa stay, a summer or day camp, a school nature trip, ski training, a language course, tickets to a cultural or sporting event, etc., provided that a booking contract or binding order was concluded with the provider and/or the trip or event was paid for in advance.

What does cancellation insurance cover?

  • Illness, injury or death of the insured person, a family member, business partner or another person with whom you made the booking or at whose place you were to stay
  • Illness, injury or death of a family member not travelling with you but whom you are provably required to care for
  • Discovery of pregnancy after the travel insurance was taken out
  • Serious illness, serious injury or death of a pet
  • Dismissal from employment by the employer
  • Summons to court
  • Resitting of a university or equivalent examination
  • Traffic accident involving the personal vehicle you planned to travel in or are travelling in
  • Missing a flight or departure due to delay or suspension of public transport
  • Theft of identity documents or other personal harm resulting from a criminal act
  • Significant property damage at your place of residence caused by theft, robbery or a natural event
  • Placement in personal preventive quarantine in connection with COVID-19 disease, ordered by a doctor or other administrative authority
  • No-fault failure to meet health requirements during airport check-in, boarding a vehicle, crossing a national border or entering an event
